Everyday Hero for Belknap CAC
Detective Thomas Swett, Laconia Police Department
Detective Thomas Swett has been in law enforcement for 24 years. For the past 5 1/2 years he has worked in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at LPD, specifically focusing on sexual assaults involving children as victims and suspects. Tom has been an invaluable asset to the GLCAC from the beginning. Not only did he enthusiastically embrace the concept of a child advocacy center for Belknap County, he educated others about the Attorney General's protocols and encouraged their implementation.
Swett, who is also a trained forensic interviewer as well as the LPD's juvenile prosecutor, brings much expertise and experience to interviews and case reviews. Tom's in-depth knowledge of the complexities of child abuse investigations makes him a leader in his field, and the "go-to person" on those really tough cases. He knows what a good forensic interview should look like and he's the person you want sitting at the other end of the microphone when interviewing a child.
Tom's caring and respect for children comes through in all of his work. He puts even the most anxious children and parents at ease, and is able to provide them with honest answers to their questions.
Tom is a consummate professional and team player. His ability to remain objective during sometimes difficult team meetings and to provide a balanced perspective is vital to a well functioning Multi-Disciplinary Team.
From taking the time to get advanced training in child abuse investigations, to sharing his knowledge and expertise with other law enforcement and child protective professionals, to mentoring other MDT members, to contributing time and expertise to achieve sustainability for the CAC, Tom is truly one of those people who go above and beyond. The CAC in Belknap County would not be what it is without him. He is our Superman!
